Buccaneer Skill Build Guide

The Buccaneer is the Brawler branch of the Pirate, a melee fighter powered by the Energy Charge system. Dragon Strike Dragon Strike is the primary 4th job AoE, Barrage Barrage delivers devastating rapid punches for bossing, and Speed Infusion Speed Infusion buffs party attack speed.

Explanation

Improve MaxHP Improve MaxHP FIRST - all guides agree unanimously. Permanent HP per level-up, missing early levels means permanently lost HP. Then Mastery + Booster for stable damage. Corkscrew Blow Corkscrew Blow vs Backspin Blow Backspin Blow first is debated - Corkscrew charges forward (better for map traversal), Backspin has wider range.

Explanation

Energy Charge Energy Charge is the core mechanic - when fully charged you get +20 weapon attack, stance, and can use energy skills. Max it first. Shockwave Shockwave is extremely powerful (700%, 6 mobs) but only usable during Transformation Transformation which has a long cooldown. Still worth maxing. Energy Drain Energy Drain is lowest priority - single-target HP drain.

Explanation

Speed Infusion Speed Infusion at level 11 gives +2 attack speed for the whole party - get it early. Dragon Strike Dragon Strike for mobbing, Barrage Barrage for bossing. Time Leap Time Leap is incredible for boss parties: it resets ALL cooldowns for the entire party (including Bishop's Resurrection).

Gearing & Stats

You want the minimum DEX required to wear your gear. However, missing mobs is obnoxious - it's recommended to level stats normally and go back to buy/swap stats later when mesos are easy and you can afford max DEX gear.

Training Tips

Method 1: Corkscrew Spam (Recommended)

Spam Corkscrew Blow Corkscrew Blow around the map. The iframes mean you take very little damage. Use MP Recovery MP Recovery on cooldown, and Energy Drain Energy Drain to recover HP. Very low potion consumption.

Method 2: Somersault Kick / Shockwave

Spam Sommersault Kick Sommersault Kick until Shockwave Shockwave is strong enough (~15+ SP). Potentially faster kills since you can fit 2-3 Somersaults per Corkscrew, but you take much more damage without iframes.

Note: MP Recovery MP Recovery doesn't give MP until later skill points (appears bugged at low levels). Don't bother using it until it's maxed. After that, use it on cooldown.
Note: Oak Barrel Oak Barrel has niche uses like preventing damage reflect when touching a boss with Energy Charge Energy Charge, or safely channel-swapping in dangerous maps.
